#100 - A Day at Tri-County Flea Market

There's much more to do than just shop at Levittown's signature flea market.

It isn't the most beautiful building in Levittown, but there's a reason why the Tri-County Flea Market lives up to the moniker "Unique Bazaar", which is actually the name of the thrift shop that took over the basement and most of the first floor when ownership shifted to Apogee Retail NY in February 2010.

Walk inside the building and you'll see what makes it unique-- and it's not just that it prides itself on being Long Island's largest jewelry exchange. Yes, the second floor seems to be filled with enough eye-catching gold to accessorize a small country, but somehow there is still room for odds-and-ends and activities of every kind.

Browse the designs at Anthony's Air Brush stand, where you can customize anything from a t-shirt to Ugg boots. Wander over to the Unique Tie and Belt Hut  for "genuine leather belts" that will cost you just $12.

A pleasant scent will lead you to Soulful D-Lights candles by Alissa followed by seductive garments at Mo Lingerie.

Designer perfumes can be bought for less, such as a bottle of Opium by Yves Saint Laurent for $50, which the vendor said cost $80 at Macy's.

Pick up classic toys for the kids; they're used but you might just find your childhood favorite and bring back some sweet memories. Find discounts on older cameras such as an Olympus IS-30 DLX for $39.93.

Beat cold nights with fuzzy pajamas at Michele's Place for just $10, and dream about summer with $6 sandals at the next booth.

Did all this shopping make you hungry? Right near the back entrance on the first floor is Knot Just Pretzels, where dough is hand-rolled into $3 pretzels of various flavors right before your eyes. Next door are zeppoles, pizza, soup, soft baked cookies and beautiful candy and caramel apples, also for $3. There's even a pickle stand, with all your favorite varieties and probably some you've never tried.

Once you have shopped and eaten, you might think your day at Tri-County is over. Wrong!

Browse Sakina's paintings near the front entrance, and watch her paint custom portraits from photographs. Once you've relaxed your mind with some art, relax your body with a Chinese back rub or an acupuncture treatment. Ten minutes in the massage chair will only set you back $10.

Want to really put yourself at ease? Quit worrying about your future and get your palm read for $10 at the market's psychic, who will take you inside her private tent.

Did your psychic reading tell you you're about to meet the one? Make sure you look good for the big occasion! You won't have to leave Tri-County to get your waxing or threading done. Eyebrow threading is $6 and waxing is $7.

Before you leave, stop at Jast Collum Keys, where you will be offered a free home security evaluation. Who can say no to free safety?

Multi-taskers rejoice-- you've gotten everything you needed today, all in one place. Best of all, you never had to leave Levittown.
