MacArthur softball star Kristen Brown will officially play softball at the University of North Carolina next fall after the university announced Sunday that she signed a letter of intent.
Brown is one of three players whose letters of intent were announced on the UNC website Sunday. The MacArthur senior is one of the best players in New York State, with three previous All-State selections. She also has three All-Long Island and five All-League selections.
"I am thrilled about the future of Carolina Softball with the signing of our 2012 class," UNC head coach Donna Papa was quoted as saying in the UNC article. "They are all quality individuals and are great additions to our Carolina Softball family."
Brown is listed as a middle infielder in the article on the UNC site, but she pitches for MacArthur as well. She helped lead the Lady Generals to the state semi-finals last season with a complete game victory over Oceanside. She also pitched the semi-final game, a loss to East Meadow.
Brown just completed playing for the MacArthur volleyball team this fall, which lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Massapequa after an undefeated regular season.
