Burglary Suspect Arrested in East Meadow

The suspect is alleged to have taken an iPod from a Jericho home; an off-duty NYPD officer spotted him in Levittown and notified police.

An 18-year-old Baldwin resident was arrested in East Meadow Monday afternoon after allegedly committing a burglary in Jericho Monday morning.

According to police, Jahvis Williams allegedly broke a glass door on a Seaman Road house at approximately 9:55 a.m. Monday and entered the home. While inside, he allegedly stole an Apple iPod and fled the scene.

Just after 12:20 p.m. Monday, Eighth Precinct police officers were notified by an off-duty New York City police officer of a suspicious person at the corner of Schoolhouse Road and Parkside Drive North in Levittown.

The off-duty NYPD officer followed Williams, who allegedly fled once he realized he was being watched.

Third Precinct officers later found the car at the corner of Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Avenue. Police allege that they found the proceeds from the robbery and marijuana in the Williams' vehicle.

Williams is being charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, possession of burglar tools, unlawful possession of marijuana and reckless driving. He will be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court.
