Former Levittown BOE President Ken Auer Remembered
Auer died over the weekend.
A somber feeling was shared this past weekend as Levittown School District residents learned of the passing of former Board of Education President Ken Auer Sr., a beloved volunteer and community advocate.
Mr. Auer served on the school board from 1992-98, and again from 1999-2005. The Auer family lived in Levittown for over 30 years. In addition, Mr. Auer served as President of Levittown West Little League, and was a member of the Kiwanis and Chamber of Commerce.
A former member of the NYPD, Mr. Auer also played football on the elite NYPD Finest Football Team and was also a member of his high school football team (Holy Cross).
"Mr. Auer was a one-of-a-kind man and will surely be missed by all those who knew him or benefitted from his generous giving of his time and efforts to the community," said current Levittown school board president Mike Pappas. "He lived a full and rich life. He was a devoted father and husband, a decorated NYC Police Department Highway Patrolman as well as the quarterback on the NYPD Football team.
Auer leaves behind his loving wife Joanne and sons Kenneth Jr. (Kathleen) and William, as well as 3 grandchildren who he adored. He was laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery.
“Kenny was a good, decent man," said Legis. Dennis Dunne. "He loved Levittown and was there for the kids. I would often see him at Division's football and baseball games. He was a terrific, positive role model. He will be missed.”
"He was a person who led by example," said Pappas. "Heaven's stars will shine a little brighter from this point on. He left our world a much better place than he found it."
