Hannon Holds on to Senate Seat

Incumbent Sen. Kemp Hannon, R-Garden City, held on to his 6th district seat Tuesday, besting political newcomer Francesca Carlow, D-Plainview, 43,880 to 28,736 votes, according to unofficial results from the Nassau County Board of Elections.

"Our victory tonight is the product of a community that is ready to restore common sense, transparency and accountability to Albany," Hannon said.

Hannon has served the 6th Senatorial District since 1989 and is also an attorney in private practice with the law firm of Farrell Fritz, PC. The Boston College, Fordham Law School and Chaminade High School graduate is the ranking member of the Senate Standing Committee on Health and is secretary of the Senate Conference. 

During his tenure in the Senate, Hannon said he was successful in enacting over $33 billion in tax cuts, many of them targeted to small business owners and their employees, between 1994-2008. He supports independent redistricting and has already signed on to Ed Koch's "New York Uprising," a non-partisan, independent redistricting of legislative and Congressional seats.

"I thank everyone who came out to the polls today to show their support for my agenda of reducing this out-of-control spending, lowering taxes and creating jobs," Sen. Hannon said.
