Two of Levittown's six high school basketball teams will play county quarterfinal games over the next two days.
The Island Trees girls basketball team is up first. The eighth-seeded Lady Bulldogs will face top-ranked North Shore at noon Tuesday. The Lady Bulldogs were 10-2 in regular season Conference A-IV play, with their only two losses coming to North Shore.
Island Trees reached the quarterfinals after a 44-38 win over Manhasset in the first round Thursday night.
The team's strong defense played a key factor in the win as Allie Merrill, Nicole Pellegrino, Sharam Sanchez and Cassie Paskins held the Indians to one fourth-quarter basket. Maggie Milonakis sealed the win by hitting six of eight free throws down the stretch.
The third-seeded MacArthur Lady Generals will have their turn Wednesday night.They host sixth-seeded Herricks in a Class AA quarterfinal.
The Lady Bulldogs were one of four teams to receive a first-round bye. Led by Courtey Noakes and Jena Cozza, MacArthur was 12-2 in conference play this season (Conference AA-II). Their only two losses came at the hands of top-ranked Baldwin.
The Island Trees girls were the only local team to win a first-round playoff game last week. The Division girls lost at Wantagh, while a comeback attempt from the MacArthur boys came up just short in a loss at Freeport.
