Levittown Dance Center Donating to Save Seaford Sports Cause

Nancy's Dance Factory assisting in fundraising efforts for organization dedicated to raising $141,000 to salvage Seaford Middle School winter and spring sports cut from budget.

Local students and parents have united within the community to bring back the Seaford Middle School athletic teams that were eliminated in this year's budget and a Levittown business has banded behind the effort.

Nancy's Dance Factory on 3715 Hempstead Tpke., Levittown will be donating a portion of Seaford dance students' tuition to Save Seaford Sports, an organization dedicated to raising the $141,000 needed to restore the Seaford Middle School winter and spring athletic seasons after they were cut from the budget

When Suzanne Jordan began working with Save Seaford Sports, she knew her job at the Levittown dance studio could be beneficial to fundraising. Jordan organized two Zumba sessions Aug. 24 and Aug. 31, offering a fun and fit way to get involved and help the community's young athletes.

"It's upsetting because not only is this just about playing sports, but sports help with the kids' health and it keeps them off of the streets," said Jordan.

"My son is in 8th grade and has played sports every season," she added. "He's really upset about the cutbacks."

Nancy Hayden, owner of Nancy's Dance Factory for over three decades, felt obligated to help her neighbors in a time of need. In addition to hosting benefit Zumba classes, the studio will donate 50 percent of Seaford students' class fees, recital fees and costume costs.

"My children go to Seaford schools and I thought it would be a good idea," said Hayden. "I've been here for 35 years and wanted to give back to the community a little bit."

Save Seaford Sports fundraising goal is $141,000 by February in time for spring sports, but according to Jordan, half that amount must be raised by October for the winter season.

"We've raised about $10,000 and we have a couple of bigger fundraisers coming up," she said.

Tonight, Mary's Pizza and Pasta in Wantagh will be donating 20 percent of all dine-in, takeout and delivery orders that present the Save Seaford Sports voucher, which is attached to this article. Save Seaford Sports also has a comedy night fundraiser scheduled for Sept. 15 at Brokerage Comedy Club in Bellmore.
