Neighborhood Watch Meeting Scheduled for Tonight

Legis. Dennis Dunne will lead the meeting, while a representative from Ed Mangano's office will also appear.

Tonight's neighborhood watch meeting at Division Avenue High School will give residents a chance to ask questions about Nassau County's police precinct restructuring plan.

The plan, unveiled by County Executive Ed Mangano and Police Commissioner Thomas Dale on Monday, calls for four of the eight precincts to be converted into community policing centers. One of those precincts is the eighth, which is located in Levittown. The plan will not eliminate any patrol cars, but 100 desk jobs will be eliminated.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Nassau County Legis. Dennis Dunne, R-Levittown, will run the meeting. He told Patch on Monday that the commissioner will also be in attendance, as well as a member of Mangano's staff, to answer any questions the community may have.

Am I missing something here??? They are proposing to eliminate 100 officer desk jobs and put them out on patrol?? What would be the problem with this??? That would mean 100 more officers on the streets, policing the area for the public and communities' safety, no??? I would think putting a civil servant at a desk job in place of the officer, making a fourth of the salary, would make economical and common sense...Guess I should attend the meeting!

48 POP positions will be in the four new Community Policing Centers, which were the four precincts housing the 48 police officers at desk jobs.

The Police out here make so much money the county cannot afford to pay them anymore. Its simple raise taxes, go ahead who cares anymore. Its over you will never be able to sell your little houses with a 12,000 a year tax bill. If you can sell your house do it now and run for your life.
