Pauly Shore Performs for Large Crowd at Governor's

Famed comedian brought his new material to Levittown stage Tuesday.

Governor's Comedy Club was a packed house Tuesday night for Los Angeles-based actor and comedian Pauly Shore.

Shore caught his big break in the late 1980s as an MTV VJ and soon went on to host his own series Totally Pauly until 1994. In those same years, Shore also rose to the top of the comedy scene with roles in hit films like Encino Man, Son in Law, In the Army Now and Bio-Dome.

A Beverly Hills native, Shore said his passion for comedy stems back to his early childhood as his parents' careers always stood out as his biggest inspiration.

"I was born into it with my parents," said Shore, 44. "My dad is a comedian and my mom owns The Comedy Store, so I've been around it forever. I did my first stand-up gig when I was 17."

Shore is currently on a stand-up tour across the east coast debuting his latest material in preparation for Pauly-Tics, an upcoming Showtime special set to air before the 2012 presidential election.

"I think my material now is much more real and less of the persona everybody knows," Shore explained. "A lot of this political material, I'm testing out for my special. I think it's going to be a challenge to tackle this stuff."

Though he says he feels blessed to continue to have a strong career after two decades on stage, Shore plans to take some personal time in his hometown after the release of Pauly-tics.

"It's really cool to know that I've touched so many fans over the years," he said. "The highs were high and the lows were low, but I think it's good to go through it all. Twenty years later and I'm still doing what I'm doing - that's pretty wild."
