Parents and kids enjoy games, karate, and yoga together.

The Special Education Parents and Teacher Association (SEPTA) held their annual Family Fun Night Tuesday evening at the Levittown Memorial Education Center, and it was a hit with kids and parents alike.

“We usually do this in Winter so the kids have something fun to look forward to that’s indoors,” said Courtney Hudon, who serves as SEPTA co-president along with Ginny Civil.

SEPTA is a Levittown Public Schools district-wide organization that serves students in every grade. They provide information, education about services and networking for parents of students with special needs.

Family Fun Night normally includes board games and other activities within one large room, but this year SEPTA took their activities a step further and invited a few visitors in.

The night’s activities included karate demonstrations from Jane Crader of Shotokan Karate with the Police Activity League’s Special Needs Unit and a yoga session from the district occupational therapist, Jaime Spencer.

Both were popular with the kids, who were very excited to have the chance to choose their activity for the night. Also present was My Shine, which provides therapeutic horseback lessons for both kids and adults. Having these outside groups participate let families know what kinds of opportunities are available and helped the children see if they might be interested.
