UPDATE: Robbery at Bethpage Federal Credit Union on Hempstead Turnpike

An employee confirmed that a robbery took place; police are looking for a white male suspect.

A man claiming to have a gun robbed the Bethpage Federal Credit Union located inside King Kullen along Hempstead Turnpike late Friday morning, according to police.

According to police detectives, a white male between the ages of 40 and 50 entered the store at approximately 10:05 a.m., displayed a demand note to a teller and stated that he had a gun, although he did not display one. He fled on foot after receiving an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. There were three bank workers and one customer in the bank at the time of the robbery, but no injuries were reported.

The suspect is described by police as a white male, approximately 5'8" in height and of thin build. He was wearing a blue colored baseball cap, long-sleeved faded red shirt, camouflaged shorts and white sneakers.

Patch went to the scene of the robbery at approximately 11:15 a.m. after seeing a user post about it on Twitter. Once there, a bank employee confirmed that there was a robbery at the bank, but said that no other details were available at the current time.

The main entrance to King Kullen was closed off due to an ongoing police investigation. Shoppers were diverted into a side entrance.
