Shooting Stars Win Tourney

The girls on the Levittown Shooting Stars U-7 soccer team have proven they know how to shoot—and score—as they recently placed first in the 22nd Annual East Meadow World Cup Soccer Tournament. The competition was held on February 16 in the Coleman Country soccer facility in Freeport.
The girls finished with four wins and one tie. The team exhibited great sportsmanship and worked as a team, according to coach Chris Petrellese. They only allowed one goal to be scored against their team.
The tournament is comprised of intramural teams who play on Long Island. Competitors came from Plainedge, Lake Grove Newfield, Bellmore, Massapequa and East Meadow.          "My primary goal when we play in these tournaments is for the girls to have fun and they get to spend the day together, ” Petrellese said. “It’s a long day, so I know it has been a success if they leave smiling. Winning first-place trophies is a bonus.”              Petrellese’s team is comprised of girls from Levittown and Wantagh who play in the Levittown Soccer Club at the intramural level.
