Island Trees Library to Host Arthritis Support Group, Kids Event

A look at some upcoming events at your local library.

A number of fun and free events - for both adults and kids - will be held at the Island Trees Public Library in the coming weeks and months. 

Here's a look at some:

ADULT PROGRAMS:

Chess: Saturdays, Jan. 4, 11, 18, 25. 10:00am-12:00pm. $2.00 per session for drop in

Learn to play chess this fall from a member of Long Island Industrial Chess League. Experienced players are also welcome. Kids under 13 are free.

Intro To Computers 1: Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, 2:00pm-4:00pm.

Learn the basics right from the beginning: turning the computer on, using the desktop, working with the mouse, opening and closing programs, understanding windows elements, getting out of trouble and turning the computer off.

Intro to Computers 2:  Friday, January 31, 2014, 2:00pm-4:00pm

In the second session, learn to work with text, files and basic word processing skills. Prerequisites: Introduction to computers 1 

Memory Bracelet: Friday, Feb. 7 @ 1:00pm. Materials Fee: $10.00(make check/money order payable to Linda Reilly).

Make two beautiful memory bracelets with Linda Reilly using colorful beads and wire.

Lovesongs: Friday, Feb. 14, 2014. 12:00pm-1:00pm. Enjoy Valentine’s Day at the library and listen to your favorite love songs. Memories will sing songs of love and romance.

Arthritis Support Group: Every first Thursday 1:00pm.

Friends of the Library: Every first Thursday 3:30pm.

Daytime Book Chat: 3rd Thursday of the each month. 1:30pm-3:00pm, Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014. Book: Hellhound on his trail by Hampton Sides.

Evening Book Chat: 1st Thursday of the month. 7:30pm-8:30pm. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014. Book: All That Is by James Salter. 

KIDS PROGRAMS:

Snowflake Scarf: Monday, Jan. 13 @ 4:30pm. Ages: 5-11.

Materials Fee: $4.00(make check/money order payable to Shirley Ruby)

Play Hooray: Baby Time: Tuesday, Jan. 14 @ 10:30am. Ages: Birth to 18 Month. A fun introduction to nursery rhymes, books, finger play and more during this *extended* 45 minutes program!
