A dog that was missing for 41 days in Levittown has been reunited with its owner.

The Massapequa family, displaced from Hurricane Sandy after their home flooded, lost the 9-year-old beagle mix while they were staying with relatives in Levittown on Dec. 18.

Clyde went missing from a home near Knoll and Center Lanes, jumping the back fence after getting frightened by thunder, owner Christina Yevoli said.

Levittown Patch posted the original story on Dec. 22 and an updated version on Jan. 20, when Clyde was spotted behind the old Kmart building on Hempstead Turnpike.

The story resonated with the local community and a Facebook group "Bring Clyde Home" was created to help find the family's pet.

When it looked like all hope had been lost, Clyde was tracked down in the woods alongside the Southern State Parkway, near the Route 107 exit ramp in North Massapequa. He was reunited with his family early Wednesday afternoon.

"I was hysterical crying, shaking," Yevoli said. "I didn't think I would find him."

Clyde's weight declined from 40 to nearly 20 pounds in the 41 days he went missing, but Yevoli said the veterinarian gave him a clean bill of health and said he looks good overall.

The canine was captured with the help of dog trapper Eddie Dogman, who was connected to Yevoli through a high school friend.

I'm so glad they had a happy ending!! What a sweet looking dog. I had a dog that was petrified of thunder so I know how easy it is for a dog to run. Now let's get some weight back on Clyde. Keep us posted

We are Levittown residents who saw the signs for Clyde. It is absolutely amazing how much you care for him. Every day we drove by your signs we would pray that you would find him. We are so, so glad he is home with you now and especially since your son has his buddy back. I am sure your dog will be treated like a king and he deserves it for what he went through.

I got the "phone alert' from a pet finder organization you signed with, I believe it's LOSTMYDOGGIE.COM. That was a GREAT START!!! Then you're signs started... more and more, and better and better. You were T|IRELESS and I so applaud you!! You NEVER gave up! I constantly watched for Clyde everywhere I drove. I am always driving somewhere around Levittown and I got into the habit of looking down side streets as I passed them, and checking whole fields from one end to the other as I drove past parks and athletic fields looking for any sign of Clyde as I'm sure MANY dog lovers all over town were doing. I am so happy for your family, especially your son, that you all have Clyde back again!! Amazing story, and tireless love for you sweet Clyde!! (I have NEVER NOT had a dog...they own such a big piece of our hearts!)
