Clyde was spotted in North Massapequa Wednesday afternoon and was reunited with his owners.
A dog that was missing for 41 days in Levittown has been
reunited with its owner.
The Massapequa family, displaced from Hurricane Sandy
after their home flooded, lost the 9-year-old beagle mix while
they were staying with relatives in Levittown on Dec. 18.
Clyde went missing from a home near Knoll and Center Lanes, jumping the back fence after getting frightened by thunder, owner Christina Yevoli said.
Levittown Patch posted the
original story on Dec. 22 and an
updated version
on Jan. 20, when Clyde was spotted behind the old Kmart building on Hempstead Turnpike.
The story resonated with the local community and a Facebook
group
"Bring Clyde Home" was created to help find the family's pet.
When it looked like all hope had been lost, Clyde was tracked down in the woods alongside the Southern State Parkway, near the Route 107 exit ramp in North Massapequa. He was reunited with his family early Wednesday afternoon.
"I was hysterical crying, shaking," Yevoli said. "I didn't think I would find him."
Clyde's weight declined from 40 to nearly 20 pounds in the 41 days he went missing, but Yevoli said the veterinarian gave him a clean bill of health and said he looks good overall.
The canine was captured with the help of dog trapper Eddie Dogman, who was connected to Yevoli through a high school friend.
