The second annual "Battle of the Books" competition between the Levittown and East Meadow libraries kicks off Thursday night in Levittown.
The popular Suffolk County young adult trivia competition was brought to Nassau last year after librarians saw how successful it had been out there.
Young adults, grades 6-9, form teams at their respective libraries early in the summer to prepare for the event. A total of 12 teens entering grades 6 to 9 participate.
The battling books include Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Gholdenko, The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliet, The Fourth Stall by Chris Rylander, The Wednesday Wars by Gary Schmidt, and Peeled by Joan Bauer, according to the library website.
The "Battles" take place at Levittown Public Library on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 7:00 p.m. and the East Meadow Public Library on Saturday, August 18, at 11:00 a.m.
