Town of Hempstead Approves Levittown Daycare Center

The business owner requested several variances to convert a vacant house into the daycare center; owner plans Fall opening.

The Town of Hempstead has approved a request for variances to convert a vacant Levittown building into a daycare center.

Allison Ulin, owner and director of the Harmony Early Learning Center, told Patch that the Town approved the variance request on April 17. Ulin plans to have the center open this fall.

“Construction will start in a few weeks, we plan to have an open house in the summer and we will also have a table at the Levittown Street Fair on May 18-19, offering free crafts for kids,” Ulin said.

The building is located at 148 Center Ln., next to Wisdom Lane Middle School. The variances also included waiving off-street parking, and a special exception to park in the front yard setback.

The property, formerly the YOM Community Center, has sat vacant for the last four years when financial issues forced its closure.
