Mr. J. Peter Hansen, Island Trees High School and Memorial
Middle School music theory/classroom specialist teacher, was chosen to
be a clinician at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Annual All-State
Winter Conference, held in Rochester from Nov. 29 through
Dec. 3.
The
workshop was entitled “Teaching Music with a Little Help from the
Beatles." Through the use of
Beatles compositions and media presentations, the workshop featured techniques
on how to use songs from the Beatles to teach elements of music such as melody,
harmony, meter, polyrhythms, orchestration, style analysis, ethnic music, and
music history, with can be applied to the music workshop classroom as well as Music
theory, AP Music Theory.

Hansen is a frequent clinician at many music conferences, and is also noted for
his large number of composition students being chosen to have their
compositions featured at the “Student Electronic Music Composition Showcase," a
highlight at the NYSSMA All-State Conference.
Mr. Hansen will also be featured as the National Association
for Music Education (NAfME) online composition mentor for the month of March
which also happens to be “Music In Our Schools Month” (MIOSM).
