Elvis fans, take note. The Bobcats, a Long Island rockabilly band, will pay tribute to the 60th anniversary of the first Elvis record at the Blue Parrot in Massapequa on Saturday, July 19.
That's when the band will give out free copies of a CD featuring a new release of their their versions of its two songs, "That's All Right" and "Blue Moon of Kentucky."
"The release of that record was the birth of rockabilly music," said Bob Muller, The Bobcat's guitarist and co-founder. "To many, it was the birth of rock and roll, as a whole. Either way, it is an important date in music history."
"This event and CD are our way of saying thanks to the people who created rockabilly music, and the fans who still support it," said Rob Walker, the group's vocalist and co-founder.
The band enlisted the help of local graphic artist Geoff Sondergard to create a CD label and jacket that is reminiscent of the early Sun records, and used guitars from 1954 to add a bit more authenticity.
