Levittown Woman Arrested in Taxi Cab Robbery

A 22-year-old woman from Levittown was arrested Friday for robbery and drug possession after police said her and an East Meadow man held a taxi cab driver at gunpoint and stole money from him early Friday morning.

Police said that Ashley N. Batewell was picked up by the cab driver in front of room 10 at the Bethpage Motel Friday morning. She then displayed a black handgun inside the cab an ordered the driver to pick up Richard Schroko, 22, of East Meadow, at a nearby bar, according to police.

Both Batewell and Schroko then told the driver to drop them in front of 224 Harrison Avenue, at which time Schroko allegedly put the black handgun to the victims heads and demanded all his money, according to police. The defendants then fled with an unknown amount of money.

The investigation led Second Precinct Police Officers back to the motel and placed the defendants into custody without incident. Police also said a search incident to arrest revealed Batewell to be in possession of Zanax.

Batewell is charged with first degree robbery, second degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Schroko is charged with first degree robbery and two counts of second degree criminal possession of a weapon.
