Canz-a-citi Roadhouse

Westbury-based sports bar is rapidly growing across New York since its launch in 2009.

Canz-a-citi Roadhouse, a fairly new sports bar and restaurant that was introduced to Westbury in 2009, has all the right ingredients to keep customers coming back.

With beautiful waitresses, a beer selection that exceeds 100 options and nearly 20 flat screen televisions, what else could you ask for?

Canz was founded by two Long Island natives, Tim Lorito and Matt Dill, and has recently expanded to three locations in Westbury, Astoria and Patchogue, with plans to franchise further in upcoming years.

The bar lives up to the restaurant name, offering no bottled beer, but a unique variety of canned choices, along with a small selection on tap. Despite their rare assortment of beers, bartenders at Canz are often seen serving up mixed drinks as well, ranging from a generic Jack and Coke to a signature fruity cocktail like the fishbowl, which can easily be shared between a group.

Canz is open for lunch and dinner, and although their menu options read like any other sports bar, the dishes seem to have a little something extra that surpass the competition.

A collection of appetizers features something for everybody - whether you are looking for a full meal or some snacks while you enjoy the game.

In a short time, Canz has become known for their "almost famous" wings. Various flavors are available including plain, mild, medium, hot, BBQ, honey BBQ, teriyaki and their signature "dirty canz", which should be taken with caution. Wing platters are available in orders of 12, 20, 30 and 50.

Other great meal starters are the Canz sampler, which is the perfect portion for a large group and features spicy boneless buffalo bites, potato skins and fried mozzarella cheese patties, or the beer battered onion rings, cooked with Guiness Stout.

If you're eating light for lunch, Canz lists a variety of sandwiches that can be cooked up quick and still taste delicious. The grilled chicken sandwich is loaded with flavor and served on garlic bread with roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella and a lemon garlic dressing. Canz also offers a BBQ pulled pork sandwich accompanied by sweet potato waffle fries and broccoli coleslaw.

Canz classic dinner dishes range from Jack Daniels BBQ salmon to homemade tacos or a grilled marinated skirt steak. Burgers at Canz are another popular order, like the grilled wild mushroom burger, the BBQ sirloin burger or a turkey burger which comes with a side of avacado mayonnaise.

On top of their regular menu and bar service, Canz also promotes a handful of special events. Pay-per-view specials can always be found on the big screen, like Saturday night UFC matches. Canz also offers two-for-one Tuesdays where select appetizers and draft beers are on special. Wednesday night is filled with the sounds of karaoke, and Thursday night is special for the ladies with an open bar from 9-11 p.m.

Canz-a-citi Roadhouse is located at 1610 Old Country Rd., just west of Post Ave. 516-227-2269
