Cool Down in Levittown

With temps expected to hit sweltering heights this week, Levittown Patch tells you where to keep your cool.

Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s Wednesday afternoon and the National Weather Service has even issued an air quality alert.

In Levittown, there are plenty of ways to beat to heat.

Escape to the ocean: While Jones and Tobay Beaches are nearby, there are several others on Long Island if you want to remain in your air conditioned vehicle for a longer drive.

Play in a pool: The nine pools across Levittown are now open for the summer season. Hours: from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. except the East Village Green pool on Jerusalem Ave. and Meridian Rd., which is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. For Wednesday and Thursday, the Town of Hempstead will keep Azalea Road, Slate Lane and Blue Grass Lane pools open until 8 p.m.

Cooling center: Hempstead Town has announced that cooling centers are open to the public from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The closest one is at the Levittown Senior Center, located at 555 N. Newbridge Rd.

Catch a flick: Loews Theatres in Levittown has air condtioned theaters. The first movie, Prometheus, starts at 12:50 p.m. There are several other regular and 3D movies playing today as well.

Strike the heat: South Levittown Lanes is open early weekday mornings. They're even offering a beat the weather deal - two hours of bowling for $10 per person.

Eat something cool: Cold Stone Creamery, Carvel, Friendly's Ralph's and Uncle Louie G all offer cold, sweet treats.

Catch up on some reading: Levittown Public Library and Island Trees Public Library offer a cool setting for some reading fun.
