LA Fitness Celebrates Grand Opening

Chamber of Commerce and local politicians showed support for the new facility.

After a successful launch over the last two months, LA Fitness held a grand opening celebration this past weekend to educate new members while raising money for ALS.

LA Fitness first opened back in December in the Nassau Mall shopping center and has since drawn a large string of members, which General Manager Barbara Cohen believes is due to the facility's state-of-the-art amenities.

"We want to provide the community with a great place to exercise," said Cohen, a Levittown resident. "We're more than just a gym. We're a sports club offering more than 60 classes, a full basketball court and swimming pool."

Levittown Chamber of Commerce members and Town of Hempstead officials joined the celebration on Saturday to properly welcome LA Fitness.

"It's nice seeing new business come here and grow," said Levittown Chamber of Commerce president Dean Baer. "A gym has a lot of traffic and brings a lot to our area by generating traffic for surrounding businesses as well.

"Levittown continues to welcome new businesses to our community and in the case of LA Fitness, a business that can improve the health and well-being of it's residents," said Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes. "[Town of Hempstead Supervisor] Kate Murray and I are currently working with many businesses that are in the process of investing and improving our community along the Turnpike."
