Town to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Starbucks

The company is seeking a special exemption to demolish a building on Hempstead Turnpike to build a new location.

Starbucks could be getting a new location in Levittown if all goes as planned.

The national coffee chain is seeking a special exemption from the Town of Hempstead to demolish the former Rayco4 building and build a new store which would feature a drive-through window.

Town Councilman Gary Hudes announced the company's intentions to build the new location at the February Levittown Property Owner's meeting.

One of the possible concerns of building a drive-through store at 2693 Hempstead Turnpike is noise for residents living in back of the building.

Even if Starbucks doesn't get the exemption to get a drive-through, a normal store may still be built there, Hudes said. It's unclear yet whether or not the current Starbucks in the King Kullen shopping center would stay open should the new location arrive.

The public hearing will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2 p.m. at Town Hall Plaza, One Washington St. in Hempstead.

In March, a new CVS with a drive-through pharmacy opened up at  2977 Hempstead Turnpike, across the street from the former location, which closed upon the new store opening.
