Spring is just around the corner, and it's time to stop and smell the roses. Who better to teach you how to enjoy the simple things nature has to offer than your pet?
Levittown families love their four-legged friends, and we know you're itching to get out of the house as this long, bitter cold winter hopefully comes to an end.
Just spending more time strolling your suburban street will get you some exercise, fresh air and the opportunity to get to know your neighbors better. You might bump into someone you have been wanting to meet, like new Island Trees Public Library director Jessica Koenig, who named taking walks in her Levittown neighborhood as one of her favorite activities.
Just make sure to be responsible and pick up after your pet!
If animals aren't your favorite companions, lace up your sneakers and head out with a spouse, friend or child, or just take some time for yourself.
Map out a route and make it your regular path, or explore somewhere new in town each day. Just stay away from Hempstead Turnpike, as the Tri-State Transportation Campaign named it the most dangerous road for pedestrians in the region three years in a row. Luckily, Levittown has plenty of quiet, intertwined suburban streets perfect for customizing routes for walkers of any level without having to cross major intersections.
If concrete isn't your material of choice, the MacArthur High School track is open to the public after school hours and before sunset, and Levittown is full of parks with plenty of grass for treading now that the ice has melted. Most don't allow pets, but you can get in a great game of catch or start relay races with your human workout buddies for a good time and some cardio.
Here are a few with plenty of space to run around on a sunny day:
- Thurman Munson Memorial Field
- John H. Benoit Memorial Park
- Levittown Firefighters Memorial Park
