"Ever since I knew what a bride was, I knew I wanted to be one…" So began Adina Agliano's wedding vows to Matt Perullo on Aug. 26.
Not only did she want to be a bride, but she'd also been planning her wedding in her mind since she was a little girl, Adina says.
So on their designated day, no detail was spared – the beach-themed wedding at Land's End in Sayville included a ceremony in a beachfront gazebo, a bright pink and green color scheme for the bridal party, programs printed on paper fans, beach grass and lanterns hanging from the centerpieces, and beach-themed, instead of numbered, table place cards ("Dunes," "Island Sunrise," "Boardwalk," "Sand Dollar"…). At the ceremony, the bridal party walked down the aisle to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"; for the reception grand entrance, to "Walking on Sunshine." "I wasn't willing to compromise on certain things," says Adina, 26, who also wrote the ceremony.
As the bride recalls, her heart stopped when she first spotted Matt as he walked into their C.W. Post philosophy class back in 2002. She says she knew right then and there that she wanted to be his girlfriend. Both were from Levittown, although they had not attended the same schools. While they had their hometown in common, their relationship started off on a rocky note – Matt liked Adina's friend at first. Still, she says, "I charmed him," and they began dating, followed by a break-up a few months later, and then a reconciliation, which led to a five-year courtship.
The groom, 26, proposed the day after Christmas in 2008, by secretly hanging an engagement ring to a little reindeer that was inside a tree ornament.
Once engaged, of course, the bride took over the reins, planning the entire wedding.
