Movies, Miniature Golf and Nature

Every week, Patch will be bringing readers the best weekend activities for children in your area.

We've assembled a weekly calendar of kid-friendly activities and new places to try out with children. Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week.

You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

Look for the kids’ planner each Wednesday, and help us build the planner with your own suggestions and tips — just add them to the comment box. Even if you disagree with our picks, let us know. We want to hear from you!

Here are nature centers, gym classes, mentor stories, bargain movie tickets and miniature golf:

1. Take a Trip to the Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center
Where/When:Theodore Roosevelt Preserve at Jones Beach in Wantagh; Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: As the ground is starting to defrost, the wildlife at Jones Beach is slowly reappearing. Children can partake in the seal walks around the preserve as well as other activities that teach them about animals and environmental habitat. Excellent exhibits combined with very knowledgeable and patient staff members make this center an easy trip for parents.
Pricing: Free

2. Free Trial Class at the Little Gym
Where/When: The Little Gym in Levittown; Saturday, March 5 with classes running at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Why Go: The newest branch of this national chain recently opened its doors in Levittown and offers a free introductory trial class. Check out this link to learn more about signing up for your free class for this weekend.
Pricing: Free

3. Teens and Children: Saturday Stories
Where/When:North Bellmore Public Library; Saturday, March 5 fro 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
Why Go: Local teenagers use their Saturday mornings to read books to children from ages three to six. Everybody wins in this program- the teens earn volunteer credit for school and the children get to learn from someone they look up to. Call the library to check availability at 516-785-6260.
Pricing: Free

4. Bargain Matinee at Merrick Cinemas
Where/When:Merrick Cinemas; Saturday, March 5 for the first showing of each movie.
Why Go: Who doesn’t love a Saturday movie and a good deal? Movie tickets are so expensive these days, and this is a great way for parents to save a buck while entertaining the kids with a new movie.
Pricing: $7 per ticket.

5. Indoor Miniature Golf
Where/When: Temple Emanu-El of East Meadow; Sunday, March 6 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: The whole family can enjoy a great game of miniature golf…indoors. Kids love playing games that they aren’t supposed to play in the house, so this is their chance to do it without getting in trouble.
Pricing: $5 per person.

Just an update to date we have raised $750 dollars once we reach the first $1000 Shelly will haveRead More her first surgery to correct her right leg then 8 - 12 weeks later hopefully the funds will be available to correct her left leg
