Sound Off: Is the Expanded CVS Necessary?

News about the new, expanded CVS opening up in Levittown across the street from the current location has some residents mixed about whether or not it is necessary.

The new CVS, scheduled to open in late January, features 2,900 square feet and a drive-through pharmacy. The current CVS, located across the street at 2977 Hempstead Tpke., will close down once the new one opens.

Here is what people are saying on the Levittown Patch Facebook page:

Maria Gala-Sorbello - "Hopefully 50% larger translates to a few job openings. The current cvs is a bit tired."

Jeanette Eichele - "they're replacing the current one on hempstead tpke. so it's not an additional cvs. but i'm lazy and don't want to have to cross hempstead tpke! so i say BOO!"

Vicky Kaparos-Fradella  - "...Won't be crossing the Tpke. just because its "bigger".It kind of stinks actually. Wish they would have just left it where it was."

The new store spruces up the Turnpike, will look much better than the decrepit bank building. The old store will find a tenant, all the other stores in that row have tenants. It would be great to have more stores fixed up and occupied on the Turnpike.

I'm looking forward to the new store. I actually like the idea of it being separate from the busy shopping center, so I can make my CVS run without dealing with that crazy parking lot.

I think the CVS could use a face lift i I dont think they renovated since the 1980's most of the newer CVS are simular in structure and. size it will also bring jobs to this tough economy.

Anybody that complains about this really needs to wake up. The old bank building was just another eyesore on the Tpke that made the town look run down. One thing we don't need is one more K Mart bldg along the road. Thumbs up to CVS for doing the right thing

I think it's wonderful! Levittown needed a facelift as did the old cvs. Can't wait! Hope we can keep it up and keep improving our town! Ignore the grinches

I think it's great! I hate that parking lot and the store is so small and lacks selection. Now I don't have to drive to the Hicksville CVS anymore. Best of all that eyesore bank building with broken windows is gone. They should have demolished it years ago.

The comments from people on Facebook that they won't cross Hempstead Turnpike to use the new CVS game me a chuckle. It sort of sums it all up, doesn;t it ? Something tells me you would cross the street if a McDonald's opened up there.

I liked the convenience of running into CVS while I had other shoppint to do at Petco or Staples, but it will be nice to have more selection, a drive through RX pickup, parking space, and hopefully, more jobs created there. It's amazing just how MANY CVS's there are on Hempstead Turnpike. Hopefully this will double as a convenience store as well as a Drug Store. I am an original Levittowner, been here since 1948. I can't remember a time when CVS was not there! Anyone know when the old store opened up?

The new store will look better than the old bank, although I wish they would have left the old bank because I hit the atm pretty much every time I go out and that was more convenient for me than the new bank location right down the block. Anyway, the new CVS will be nice - - it's not my money building yet another store. I hope someone takes over the old CVS right away and that we don't end up having another vacant store to look at for years to come like the old KMart and Pathmark. I really wish they would seriously think about a skate park or something else for the kids. Our kids in Levittown really have nothing to do unless they're involved in school sports. Not everyone is into sports.

New jobs... New look... New turnpike! I, for one, feel this expansion will be an asset not only to the CVS customers but to the community as well. By the looks of it I see it giving the pike a much needed makeover and the drive through pharmacy will be convenient for all. It's got my stamp of approval ;-)
