Where to Prep for Prom

As the big night inches closer, Levittown Patch has found some local spots to get ready for prom.

Each week, Patch Picks will highlight editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off and more. 

You’ll find useful lists to help you, your family, friends and significant others find the best places for everything from Sunday brunch to New Year’s Eve celebrations, pumpkin patches, date night destinations, florists, girls' nights out, kids party places, parks and more.

This week, Levittown Patch searched for local salons and spas that offer services to get high school students ready for prom. We found formal hair salons, innovative institutes and spots that do makeup application on a budget, as well as places to prep your nails and get a sunless tan. There is something for everyone on this list, so be sure to check out what spots are right around your corner:

1. Bocara Salon and Spa
Location: 353 Wantagh Avenue, Levittown

Description: Bocara is a definite go-to for many Levittown high school students, partly due to its “Prom Package Special.” According to their website, this package includes a French manicure and pedicure, makeup application and formal hair styling – all for $149.99. Before prom, try out some of their other services such as highlighting, coloring, a keratin treatment, conditioning or hair relaxing. They also do waxing and several different types of makeup application.
 
2. The Salon at ULTA
Location: 3377 Hempstead Tpke., Levittown

Description: Head over to the beauty mega retailer ULTA to check out the salon in the back of the store. To get your hair ready for prom, try one of the signature cuts, glazes, highlights or hair treatments. On the day of, they do formal styles for $50 and makeup applications for $30. Plus, if you don’t feel like having someone else do your hair, makeup and nails, browse through the store and find all of the supplies you could possibly need to make sure you are pretty for prom.
 
3. Long Island Nail and Skin Care Institute
Location: 3709 Hempstead Tpke., Levittown
Phone: (516) 520-4800
Description: This full service spa has all of the services anyone could need to make sure they are prom ready, with some of the best trained students and teachers. Indulge in a teen facial before the big day to make sure your skin is glowing. Other services offered include a variety of waxing, nail care and, of course, makeup application. Head over to the institute before prom for a trial makeup application, which is $20 less than a regular session.
 
4. Angie’s Nail and Spa
Location: 15 Emerson Avenue, Levittown
Phone: (516) 796-7300
Description: A fantastic local nail salon, guests are well taken care of at Angie’s. This nail and spa spot is conveniently located right off of Hempstead Turnpike and has very affordable prices – perfect for those prom-goers on a budget! Patrons can get their nails done in a friendly, safe and clean environment with no hassle.
 
5. Beach Bum Tanning
Location: 3151 Hempstead Tpke., Levittown
Phone: (516) 342-9166
Description: Everyone wants to have that perfect glow for the big day, but forget the tanning beds and get your glow through one of Beach Bum’s state of the art spray tan booths. They carry the Mystic HD and, according to their website, this provides “natural-looking” results. If you’re looking for a tan that is specifically applied for you, try the airbrush application.
