Levittown Memorial a Safe Haven from Hurricane Sandy

Levittown Memorial is being used as an American Red Cross shelter in anticipation for Hurricane Sandy. Evacuees and residents in the community who are in need of shelter, food or water are welcome to stay at Levittown Memorial through the duration of the storm. On Sunday evening, 65 people were residing at the shelter.

Elizabeth Barker, Director of Emergency Services, says the shelter is "definitely a resource for the community" and is encouraging residents to utilize this service if needed. "We'll be open as long as people need a safe place to stay," she said.

In addition, Barker stated that mental health workers are on hand. She also advised residents to bring any medications or items of comfort when coming to stay at the shelter.
