NASSAU COUNTY STEP PROGRAM TO AID IN HURRICANE RELIEF!

Nassau County STEP Program Deadline Extended to JANUARY 18TH!

The STEP Program Wants to Help!  Nassau County is urging residents to apply for the FEMA funded Sheltering and Temporary Essential Power (STEP) Program before the new deadline of January 18th.  It is the intent of this project to provide temporary power, heat and hot water to residential homes in the areas adversely affected by Hurricane Sandy so as to allow residents to remain home while they wait on their permanent repairs. The STEP Program can provide up to four (4) electric baseboard heaters, an electric water heater and can also replace an electrical panel. In conjunction with these services, STEP is working with a volunteer mold program to provide remediation for homes affected by the storm.  Additionally, they are working with a licensed contractor to provide limited carpentry services to protect the exterior of people’s homes and roofs from the elements. All of this is provided at no cost to you! Residents seeking assistance through the Nassau County STEP Program should dial 516-573-0315. After an assessment is conducted, you will be matched up with a contractor who will contact you to schedule the installation.  The STEP program’s hours of operation are 9am-9pm seven (7) days a week. They are working around the clock to help people as quickly as possible. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Nassau County STEP Program has thus far assessed over 5,400 homes.  In order to be a part of this program, you need to have your home assessed by January 18th. You can follow the program on facebook and twitter to help spread the word to local residents who need help!
