Levittown Gunners Take the Shootout to Win the Boys-Under-12 State Open Cup

The Levittown Gunners of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) are having a very successful Spring Season. Levittown are semifinalists in the Eastern New York Premier League (ENYPL) and recently won the Boys-Under-12 State Open Cup final. The game for the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) cup title took place on Saturday, May 31 at Stringham Park in LaGrange.

The match was scoreless through regulation and overtime so it went to the shootout, which Levittown won, 5-4, in six rounds. Justin Weinert scored the winning penalty kick and Levittown keeper Ethan Wood scored on his attempt in the fifth round.

“We had some opportunities to score during the game, we pressed but could not put the ball in the net yet we advance through the shootout,” commented Levittown coach Mike Borra.

Levittown received a $2,000 check from Eastern New York to defer the costs of playing in the Regionals from June 26 to July 1 in Kingston, Rhode Island. The accolades keep on coming as they also received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by the match officials.
