Murray Joins John Starks at ‘Knicks Read to Achieve’ Event

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray recently joined in at Cablevision’s “Knicks Read to Achieve” summer reading event with Knicks legend John Starks. The event was held at the Baldwin Public Library.

After welcoming remarks from Library Director Catherine Overton, Murray and Starks discussed the importance of literacy.  They also read aloud from the book, Hoop Genius: How a Desperate Teacher and a Rowdy Gym Class Invented Basketball by John Coy.

A child's reading skills are vital to their success in school and later in life.  Reading can also be a fun and imaginative activity that opens the doors to all kinds of new worlds,” said Town of Hempstead Supervisor Murray.
