Thelma Ryan, 50-Year Resident of Levittown, Passes Away

Thelma Ryan, a Levittown resident of more than 50 years on Pinetree Lane, recently passed away.

Ryan was the beloved daughter of the late Annie and Fred Wang, born July 6, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York.

Mother of two and grandmother of four, late of Boca Raton, Florida, also lived at Southwoods @ Amityville and Belmont Villas, N. Babylon. Thelma passed peacefully on to eternal life on Thursday evening, Nov. 7, 2013 at The Hospice By The Sea in Boca Raton after a brave, yearlong fight against pancreatic and liver cancer.

Despite several significant and lasting physical challenges beginning in early childhood and a bout with breast cancer in the 1990's, Thelma was able to accomplish much in her life and will be forever admired and remembered. Thelma was fiercely independent, an outspoken advocate for the disabled, a lover of music, an avid reader and collector of art and antiques, an interior decorator, photographer, owner of Roryann Art Gallery in the 1960's and '70's, and owner/designer of TWR Knitwear in the 1980's and '90's.

A traditional Jewish service arranged by Jewish Memorial Chapel of Hempstead will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenfield Cemetery, 650 Nassau Rd., Uniondale, New York.

The family shall receive visitors on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the home of Thelma's daughter Ann L. Kessinger and devoted and loving granddaughters Gillian and Bonnie, at 191 Livingston Avenue, Babylon (631 587-8015).

In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity in Thelma's memory would be most appreciated.
