Cops: Local Man Tried to Break into Levittown Home

A Levittown man was arrested Monday afternoon after he allegedly stole an envelope off a front porch and then attempted to break into a Levittown home, cops said.

According to police, at 2:50 p.m., Nitin Malhotra, 21, went to a residence on Elm Drive and took a large envelope that was on the porch. He then went to the rear of the home, broke a screen and then fled in an unknown direction, cops added.

A witness called police, and Malhotra was located by Second Precinct officers on Miller Place with the proceeds. He was then placed under arrest.

Malhotra is charged with second-degree attempted burglary and petit larceny, and his arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
