A Bronx man faces charges for leading a high speed chase on the Southern State Parkway this weekend, reported New York State Police.
Just after 2 a.m. Saturday, State Troopers tried to stop a Honda Civic near Exit 30 on the Southern State Parkway near Farmingdale and Massapequa, officers said. The car had been clocked at 100 miles per hour in a 55 MPH zone, police said.
Instead of pulling over, the Honda turned its headlights off and made several unsafe lane changes to evade police while speeding up, cops said.
The chase continued west on the Southern State until the driver of the Honda lost control and struck a light pole at Exit 25 near East Meadow and Bellmore, officers said.
Cops charged the driver, Yoel Perez-Grullon, 23, of the Bronx, with unlawfully fleeing a police officer, reckless endangerment, and several other traffic violations.
