Cops: 13-Year-Old Killed in Hit-and-Run; Driver Still at Large

Teen was struck in Levittown by blue minivan after midnight Sunday, cops said.

A teenage girl has died after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Levittown early Sunday, police said. 

Bryanna Suplin, 13, was crossing Hempstead Turnpike at Gardiners Avenue when she was struck by a minivan heading east at 12:02 a.m., cops said.

Suplin, who Newsday reported had Down syndrome and was trying to go visit her grandfather when she was hit, was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center with undisclosed "head and body trauma," and she was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. by hospital staff, police said.

The driver fled the scene and police are looking for a vehicle described as a 2011-2013 blue Town and Country minivan. The driver fled east on Hempstead Turnpike before turning north onto the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the hit-and-run to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
