Crimes Nearby, Pt. II: Shoplifting, DWI Arrests

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's incident reports and the Second Precinct Crime and Arrests report. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime. 

Bellmore

  • Sometime between 5 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 9 a.m. on Aug. 8, glue was poured into door locks on Bellmore Avenue.

  • Before 9 a.m. on Aug. 11, a front window at the Bellmore Playhouse was broken.

  • At 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 2, a woman left her wallet on a counter at 7-Eleven on Merrick Road. When she returned 15 minutes later, it was missing.

  • Sometime between 9-9:15 p.m. on Aug. 3, a cell phone was stolen while the victim was playing basketball at Newbridge Road Park in Bellmore.

  • At 2:49 p.m. on Aug. 4, Dennis Gilroy, 47, of Massapequa, was arrested at the Bellmore LIRR Station and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Merrick

    • A Brooklyn man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly stole jewelry from a home in Merrick, cops said. For more on this story, click here.

  • Two men were arrested in Merrick Tuesday afternoon after allegedly being found with 21 glassine envelopes of heroin. For more, click this link.

  • On Aug. 5, between 9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., a vehicle parked at Synergy Fitness Center on Merrick Avenue had its window broken, and items were stolen.

  • At 5:25 p.m. on Aug. 3, Vincent Scuderi, 44, of  Island Park, was arrested at the intersection of Hewlett Avenue and Narwood Avenue and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and two violations of the vehicle and traffic law.

  • Sometime between 10 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 7 p.m. on Aug. 8, electronics were stolen from a boat at the Blue Water Yacht Club.

  • At 2:38 p.m. on Aug. 12, Steven Small, 51, of Merrick, was arrested on Merrick Road and charged with driving while intoxicated.
  • Seaford

    • Two Seaford men were arrested on drug possession, traffic violation and other charges after a traffic stop in Massapequa early Tuesday morning. For more on this story, click here.

    • On Aug. 6, between 7:19 a.m. and 7 p.m., a catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle parked at the Seaford LIRR Station.

  • Between 6:20 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. on Aug. 1, a car parked at the Seaford LIRR Station had its windows broken, although police said nothing was taken.

  • Sometime between 6 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 8 a.m. on Aug. 8, a lock of a vehicle was damaged while it was parked on Merrick Road in Seaford, and power tools were stolen.

  • Sometime between 10 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 8, an unknown suspect stole the complainant's unlocked vehicle on Meadow Lane in Seaford.

  • On Aug. 10, at 3:14 a.m., Elaine Donahue, 36, of Seaford, was arrested at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Washington Avenue and charged with driving while intoxicated.
  • Massapequa

    • A Massapequa man with a child in his car was arrested Saturday afternoon and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, Suffolk County Police said.

  • Sometime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Aug. 4, a home on Rita Court was broken into, and a laptop was stolen.

  • On July 30, between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., three lockers were damaged at Xtreme Gym, and credit cars, an iPod, wallets, a cell phone and cash were taken.

  • On July 31, while the complainant was playing basketball at Burns Park, police said their backpack was stolen.

  • Sometime after 4:15 p.m. on July 31, a pocketbook, credit cards and cash were stolen from a vehicle on Cartwright Boulevard.

  • On Aug. 1, at 3:20 p.m., an unknown person entered the victim’s vehicle while they were at Il Classico Restaurant, and jewelry was stolen.

  • On Aug. 2, between 8:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m., a catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle that was parked at the Massapequa Park Long Island Rail Road station.

  • Between 12:30-12:35 a.m. on Aug. 4, a victim parked his vehicle at 7-Elevenat Merrick Road and Roosevelt Boulevard. He left the windows open, and returned to find his wallet, cash, credit cards and personal papers missing.

  • Sometime after 2 a.m. on Aug. 5, a Think Pad was stolen from a vehicle on Central Avenue.

  • Sometime between 5-5:20 p.m. on Aug. 3, Gina Vigilante, 17, of Massapequa Park, was arrested at J.C. Penny and charged with petit larceny.

  • On Aug. 11 at 5:07 p.m., Joneisha James, 22 of Roxbury, and Lamique Agard, 36, of Amityville, were arrested for shoplifting at Macy’s and charged with grand larceny and possession of burglar’s tools.
