Levittown Boy Credited for Saving Grandfather's Life

He's only seven years old, but he's already saving lives.

David Chavez, a third grade student at Stokes Elementary School, has been credited for saving his grandfather's life because of his quick thinking. Chavez and his grandfather, Frank Morales, were home alone when Morales, a diabetic, passed out from low blood sugar, according to a News 12 report.

"David called 911. Operator Patti Collins answered and sent first responders to the Levittown home. Morales says he may have died if his grandson wasn’t home.

When asked why he called 911, David says of his grandfather, "He took me to basketball. He took me mostly to McDonald's. He did all that stuff for me, so it's reasonable that I did something back to him."

Chavez specifically told the operator what the situation was, directing police and ambulances to his Levittown home.

His classmates at Stokes and the Island Trees School District recently honored him as "a hero among us" for his actions.

"When I was in kindergarten they showed me that calling 911 was important," Chavez said.
