Levittown Man Charged With DWI in Westbury Crash

Three people were injured in the crash Saturday night, police said.

Two men have been charged with driving while intoxicated following a crash Saturday night in Westbury, Nassau County police said. 

Elan McDonald, 25, of the Bronx, was driving a 1993 Toyota Camry northbound on Merrick Avenue when he crossed over into the southbound lane and struck a 2006 Jeep Cherokee driven by Vincent Berillo, 42, of Levittown, according to police.

At the scene, Berillo was observed to have glassy bloodshot eyes along with slurred speech, and he was placed under arrest without incident, according to police.

Police said that a 22-year-old female passenger in the Toyota was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in critical condition. A 38-year-old male passenger of the Jeep was also transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. 

McDonald is being charged with second degree assault, second degree vehicular assault, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. He will be arraigned as soon as practical, police said.

Berillo is being charged with driving while intoxicated and holding more than one license. He will be arraigned on August 31, 2013 at First District Court, Hempstead.
