Man With Gun in Home Prompts Lockdown at Island Trees Schools

The lockdown was lifted after the man was placed in custody, police said.

Island Trees High School and Memorial Middle School went on a brief lockdown Friday afternoon after police said they received a call for a man in possession of firearms in his home on Straight Lane.

Island Trees Superintendent Charles Murphy said the lockdown lasted about 10 minutes and schools are now operating as normal.

A public information officer told Patch that the lockdown was taken as a precaution and added that they have the man in custody. No other details were immediately available.

In an unrelated incident, police searched Wantagh High School Friday morning after receiving a report that a student might have brought a gun to school.
