A Hempstead man faces charges after he was caught trying to break into a North Bellmore house by an off-duty Nassau officer, according to Nassau County Police.
An off-duty Nassau County Detective Lieutenant was on Metropolitan Avenue in North Bellmore when he saw a man "acting suspiciously," cops said.
The subject then tried to enter a side door to a nearby house which prompted the detective to approach him. As the detective questioned him, he said he saw the man had burglar tools and found the home's screen door had already been pried open.
The incident happened at 9:37 p.m. Tuesday, cops said.
The detective arrested Carlos Parada-Hernandez, 45, of Hempstead, and charged him with second-degree burglary and possession of burglar tools. He was arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
