Police: Levittown Woman Pushed Cop Down Stairs

The woman faces charges of second degree assault and obstructing government administration.

A Levittown woman was arrested and charged with assault after police said she pushed an officer down the stairs of a home in East Rockaway on Sunday, police said.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance call on Third Avenue in East Rockaway Sunday at 11 p.m. While resolving the matter, police said a Fourth Precinct officer was at the top of the stairs escorting the defendant, Veronica Berk, 31, of Grace Lane in Levittown, out of the residence. Berk then allegedly pushed the officer down the stairs.

The officer sustained injuries to his left leg and to his abdominal area, and was transported by a Nassau County Ambulance to a local area hospital for treatment, according to police.
