A Seaford man fired a BB gun and a rifle at a makeshift target in his backyard, which borders an elementary school, police said.

Michael Marron, 55, was arrested Saturday morning at his home at 2608 Island Channel Road after police responded to a report of BB gun shots being fired from the property, police said.

A subsequent investigation by officers revealed that Marron was using a metal suit of armor, which he had up against a chain link fence in his backyard, as a target, police said.

That fence divides Marron's property from the schoolyard of Seaford Harbor Elementary School.

Police said Marron had also fired a rifle with .22 caliber bullets at the suit of armor, which was riddled with bullet holes.

Marron was arrested and also found to be in possession of cocaine and 19 hydromorphone hydrochloride pills, a derivative of morphine, police said.

Marron is charged with two counts of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of prohibitions on the use and possession of firearms. He is due to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.

Heroin, Cocaine, Pot and Fireworks are "banned." How is that working out?

@ Brian @EJ48 re: "...legitimate and responsible gun owners...", and "responsible laws regarding sale and possession (of guns)": I agree with EJ48 on this. Crazies and criminals are jeopardizing the rights of legitimate, responsible gun owners. Pressure is building for legislators at various levels of government to pass tighter gun control laws to reduce gun violence. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If the only response from otherwise responsible gun owners is to toe the NRA line (and essentially do nothing), then you should not be surprised when reason prevails and really tight gun controls are passed in the not-too-distant future.

I'm afraid I must correct you both. We already have some of the most stringent gun laws in the country. For quite some time, no guns have been purchased LEGALLY in NYS without a NICS background check. There is no "gun show loophole" or other media created buzzwords that are available in NY. Immediate family was exempt in some cases, not any more. I do agree that the mental health reporting must be made more comprehensive with extensive documentation and accountability on the part of physicians. The problem with more gun laws is that the gun grabbers are never satisfied with what they get and must always push for more and more restrictions that by definition, only apply to law abiding gun owners, not to criminals, crazies and gang members. The safe act was only a year old and someone from MDA stated that the gun people never give in they only take. The SAFE act was one of the biggest takes on the part of gun grabbers, and most of the requirements have no hope of doing anything to protect anyone. The problem with bills like the one that failed to pass the Senate is that it was not a "Universal background check" bill it had so many insidious riders, add-ons, pork and unexplained restrictions, much like Obamacare as we are now finding out, that it had to be voted down. I wish the laws could be kept on topic but politicians don't know how or are unwilling to do that apparently.

Good points, Brian.

Well argued Brian. However, IMHO, the only "legitimate and responsible gun owners" are sport hunters with one shot shotguns and antique collectors with no magazines or bullets. Guns in airports, bars, houses of worship?? Puhleeze! The more the NRA pushes the more ridiculous it gets. I hope that common sense ultimately prevails, but this being America we must exhaust all other options first.
