Board Bumps Beach Parking Fees in Time for Memorial Day

Town of Hempstead residents will pay $2 more to park at several Lido Beach and Point lookout beaches.

Town Board officials voted 6-0 Tuesday to increase the parking fee for residents from $8 to $10 per car at Lido Beach Town Park, Lido West Town Park, Town Park at Sands, and Town Park at Point Lookout, reported Newsday.

The fee remains $20 for nonresidents at Lido Beach Town Park and $25 at Lido West, Sands, and Point Lookout.

“Hempstead Town’s most recent modest adjustment on beach parking brings our township in line with other state and municipal beaches,” town spokeswoman Susan Trenkle-Pokalsky said, according to the report. “In fact, fees at some local municipalities are significantly higher.”

All Town of Hempstead operated beaches will open for the season this weekend.

Lifeguards will be on duty weekends and holidays only through June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. From June 23 to Sept. 1, beaches will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parking fees will be collected every day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. when beaches are open.

Bad assumption, Eddie. I've owned a home here since Fran Purcell was County Executive and Al D'Amato. I watched Margiotta, Gulotta, Murray, and now Mangano run this county into the ground. If your taxes went down, its because you filed a grievance in this disgrace of an assessment system. It also means that someone else's taxes went up. And you can thank Murray for the Islanders moving to Brooklyn. Her budgets are balanced be she uses the reserve funds, and Hempstead's cherished bond rating was recently lowered. So, Eddie, don't tell me about living in mommy's basement, and learn some real LI history.

One correction, Eddie: Al D'Amato, he of the 2% contribution to the "party", was TOH Supervisor.

Eddie....Stop watching news 12 ! Get the facts! Fees are taxes! Fees and taxes are way up.

Fees are optional, taxes are not. I own several buildings in Nassau, and my taxes and government expenses have plummeted under the Republicans. My profits are up as is my spending and my family and tenants are enjoying a much better life than they ever did under the Socialists regime.

Your taxes will always go up because the average person is either too stupid, lazy, apathetic or gullible to even notice. And politicians and bureaucrats know this all too well. That is why they speak of taxes as "revenue" and enact all sorts of fees that are imbedded into the cost of doing virtually any type of business. And most of your money is taxed not once, but at least twice, and sometimes even more. Ever buy something? You are spending AFTER tax money for sales tax. Ever make an investment? Your after tax money earns you a dividend, from which you pay taxes on. And if by chance you have a capital gain, you get the privilege of paying taxes again.
