County: Mangano Delivers Third No-Property Tax Hike Budget

A weekly look-in at the news of Nassau County..

According to a release from the county, for the third year in a row, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano delivered to the legislature a no-property tax increase budget that reduces spending for a second consecutive year and continues to deliver essential services for the people of Nassau..

The release continues to state that Mangano and the Republican Legislative Caucus have cut more than $290 million in spending from Nassau’s budget.

Earlier this month, George J. Marlin, the Director of the Nassau Interim Finance Authority (NIFA), bashed the county's finances, stating that many of the county’s revenue and expense estimates from last year were "delusional."

However, the recent release from Nassau County said:

Without raising property taxes, Mangano has addressed a $311 million deficit inherited from the prior administration and kept pace with double-digit increases in pension and health care costs, unfunded mandates, a stagnant economy and poor municipal practices.

The release continued by stating that the problems created by previous administrations "are being structurally corrected in responsible and transparent budget plans advanced by the administration," putting the county on a "more efficient path to a brighter future."
