Hempstead Turnpike CVS to Move Across Street

Construction on the former site of HSBC Bank will begin in the spring; a CVS spokesperson estimates that the new CVS will open in early 2013.

The vacant building at 2970 Hempstead Turnpike will be knocked down and rebuilt as a CVS, according to a spokesperson from the company.

CVS Caremark Director of Public Relations Mike DeAngelis confirmed the company's plans in a phone call Monday. The tenants from the CVS at 2977 Hempstead Turnpike will move out of that building and into the newly-constructed CVS in early 2013.

Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes informed Patch last week of the plans for CVS to demolish the former HSBC building and construct a new building. DeAngelis confirmed Monday that the CVS across the street will close the day before the new building is set to open.

"It’s going to be a larger, free-standing store," DeAngelis said. "All of the employees will move over. It will be larger in terms of [it] will able to offer more merchandising, it will be able to offer a drive-through pharmacy."

The planned opening for the new store would be in early 2013, according to DeAngelis. The existing building will be demolished and the new store will be built in its place. DeAngelis anticipates that construction on the new building will begin this spring.

Hudes noted that building plans fall in line with his and Town Supervisor Kate Murray's pledge for beautification of Hempstead Turnpike. "Kate and I have done an extensive amount of beautification along the turnpike," he said. "That property has a landscape plan that will be very extensive and add to that beautification of the turnpike that Kate and I are committed to."

Hudes said that the project was currently in review process with the Town of Hempstead Department of Engineering. Once that process is completed, demolition can begin.
