Third and fifth-grade students in teacher Jill Frank’s art class joined hundreds of students throughout Nassau County in making valentines for the Valentines for Veterans program.
Prior to making cards, Ms. Frank discussed with the students the differences between a veteran and a soldier currently serving in the military. The student-artists also received a lesson on the qualities that make a card special. “This is a tiny way that we can tell the veterans thank you and to let them know thatwe care about them,” Ms. Frank stated.
After the cards were designed, staff from Hempstead Town Councilman Gary Hudes, R-Levittown, and County Executive Ed Mangano’s offices collected the cards and distributed them to local and regional veterans.
The art lesson tied into the Levittown District’s Get a Voice character education program, as well as the school’s social studies and English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum. East Broadway Elementary School is located on 751 Seamans Neck Rd, Seaford.
