Island Trees School Budget Passes

Incumbents Kim McDonugh and Daniel Donahue re-elected.

Island Trees voters came out in strong numbers Tuesday to support the district's 2012-13 budget, passing it by a vote of 689 to 278.

The approved spending plan totaled $57,925,136 with a 1.99 percent tax levy increase. Major budget cuts applied to the middle school vocal lessons as well as with the elimination of the high school golf team.

Incumbent trustees Kim McDonough and Daniel Donahue ran unopposed to regain their seats on the board. McDonough was re-elected with 562 votes while Donahue earned 583.

"We would again like to thank the community for their support of our schools," said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Charles Murphy.

The board will meet for their monthly work session Wednesday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at the Stephen Karopcyzc School.
