Islanders Encourage Healthy Living at Summit Lane School

Story by Elizabeth Sobel.

The New York Islanders hockey team mascot Sparky and arena hostess Dina Tsiorvas recently encouraged students at Summit Lane Elementary School in the Levittown School District to eat well, remain active and make sound decisions in order to build healthy bodies and minds.

“Everyone here today should exercise regularly and eat the right foods in order to grow into strong and healthy adults,” Sparky told the students during the school’s annual Islanders assembly.

During the assembly, the students exercised with Sparky and learned that staying committed to a healthy lifestyle is extremely important. Sparky recommended activities that can add up to the suggested one-hour-a-day activity level, such as walking the dog, dancing or riding a bike.

The team’s beloved mascot also encouraged the students to always be truthful, wear a seatbelt and complete homework ahead of time.

“You have to stay committed in order to be successful,” he advised.
