ITMS Team Named Finalist in Christopher Columbus Competition

News and notes form the Island Trees school district.

One of the Island Trees Middle School teams entered in the Christopher Columbus Competition has been named a finalist. 

Alesha Ali, Michael Henken, John Jeannetti, and Troy Veritzan were one of seven teams of finalists in the United States.

The students were mentored by science enrichment teacher Mrs. Eileen Anderson.

Island Trees Middle School principal Roger Bloom announced the news to the school communuty on Friday.

Four other Island Trees Middle School teams were named semifinalists in the competition. The school's five semifinalists were more than any other school in the country.

The winning team will be awarded a $25,000 grant to develop, patent and market their project.  Students on the first place team will each be given a $2,000 United States Savings Bond. 

The finals will be held in Orlando, Florida, during the third week in June.
